Recommendable Hotel

Quite, very nice charming chalets all facing a small lake full of friendly ducks set in the middle of the jungle. If you don’t mind being far off it’s a perfect location. Pretty good BF for Sri Lankan standards.

Reception staff could be a bit more friendly and professional.

Spacious villa with a few points for improvement

The food and service were of very high standard. All staff we engaged with were friendly, it was just a shame there were no other visitors to keep everyone busy. The villa itself was very spacious and comfortable and we loved the large, partly outdoor bathroom!

The location from Dambulla 'city' was a lot further than expected. Unfortunately, the pool was very unclean. I understand there are very few guests at the moment (in fact, we were sadly the only guests staying the night we were there) but we wanted to swim so went ahead and used the very cloudy pool (we just kept our heads out!). This was unfortunate as it would be a stunning pool otherwise. We also had a really strange smell in our villa. Despite being given air freshener (after our request) the smell continued to linger.

The room was beautiful- the best we saw in a 3 week stay in...

The room was beautiful- the best we saw in a 3 week stay in Sri Lanka. Particularly wonderful was the bathroom. The bed was incredibly and the most comfortable. The high ceiling provided a spacious ambience and the lake was a beautiful setting, genuinely a very beautiful and special place.

The standard of hospitality shown to us in Sri Lanka was not matched here. We found home stays to be a more natural and welcoming host. For example the hotel approved Tuk Tuk and taxi driver would try and charge double the standard going rate, appreciate its an opportunist environment due to the lack of tourism in Dambula but it has an air of dishonesty. Just don’t use any hotel approved taxis or transfers, find a guy on trip advisor for a faction of the price.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly. the rooms were amazing, very spacious and comfortable, the location was a little remote, but that was ok as we had a car, we wanted a quiet oasis. However, annoyingly, the pool was out of action

It was very frustrating that the pool was out of order, unfortunately there was an algae which wasn't responding to the chemicals. However, this was a luxury hotel and in a remote location, the reason for choosing this was to relax in a beautiful oasis and swim in the pool. I accept that it is difficult to treat the algae but online reviews had stated it had been out of order for a while, so it felt a little over priced for just a room (albeit a very lovely room).

A beautiful stay and we would return.

Excellent location with incredibly friendly and attentive staff. Meals were well priced and tasty. Chalet was luxurious and we would definitely come again.

We didn’t mind this, even in a Tuk Tuk, but it’s a bit of a trek down the windy and bumpy lane which some patrons may find challenging.

Wonderful

Staff were very friendly especially Mr. Susanda. He was sooo nice and kind. The lake and the garden were so beautiful and calm.

The pool water was a bit opaque. The location was a little bit far from the city.

It was a very enjoyable stay.

The staff was extremely helpful especially Mr. Susanta. Check-in and check-out was very smooth. Chalets were well designed and lake was beautiful.

There were no blankets in the room and did not get despite request. Phone/intercom was not working. Swiming pool was not clean.

Lovely Villas

We loved the room, it was very spacious and nicely designed and we especially enjoyed the semi-outdoor bathroom. The location is not near other accommodation and very peaceful with the lake and resident water birds. We didn't time to get to try the pool but it looked very inviting. Staff were very friendly.

The food was average, compared to many other places we stayed in Sri Lanka. Due to the location, there isn't anywhere else to eat within walking distance. There were a few bugs that got into the bathroom including a frog that came up through the bathroom sink drain, however this didn't bother us as also happens sometimes in Australia. Driveway was pretty muddy due to the rain, worked out ok for us as we had a car/ driver but something to be aware of depending on your transport.

Friendly staff, spacious rooms, comfy bed, nice pool area, tasty buffet dinner and breakfast, nice setting on the lake.

Nice place, but many things to improve

Big and luminous rooms. Well protected and secured villa (private security). Buffete: ok, but without it: very expensive, small portions and not well prepared.

Very bad dinner during first night; there is no alternative because of the location (kms away from any other restaurant). Expensive, bad and cold food, small portions. Frogs (more than one) and insects (big ones) in bathroom; they get into the place through the shower drain and washbowl (teeth brush). I attach below and image of the swimming pool. A LOT of insects, frogs and muddy water. 3 days in a row without water due to “technical problems” we waited more than an hour to take a shower. We changed our plan (due to enjoy esala perahera) and they dont help transfering the booking to another hotel of the firm (there are several 4-5 in Kandy). Of you had an alternative: I would choose another.

Quiet and tranquil location, nature was abundant. Great for a one night stay to access Sigiriya Rock (well worth a visit) Head waiter was incredible and went above and beyond to accommodate our dietary requirements (vegan) Pool was great Views around the lake were great Staff were friendly in amending our booking when we decided to change our travel plans

For us, there was nothing else around to access the hotel, you need to go down a dirt track and you find yourselves in the middle of nowhere (which is a positive and a negative) Rooms were in disrepair and needed some attention (some ceiling panels had been taped) Shower accessories needed a deep clean

The property was amazing! Very calm, clean, with beautiful view, relaxing atmosphere on the lake and the animals walking around, nice and supportive personnel.

The internet connection was not very good in the rooms. The only good connection was on the reception. If we go a little far away (in the restaurant- 50 meters from the reception- the internet was missing again. The Mobitel carrier’s coverage was also missing.

Staff and food were the best here.

Staff and food were the best here. The hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere so we stayed in for all meals, from breakfast to dinner and we enjoyed it a lot. Menu was not changing, but ingredients were (especially for the typical rice and curry). Also very professional in organizing external activities (we went to Sigiriya with them and everything ran smoothly).

Location perhaps is the only weak point, as the hotel is right in the middle of nothing (with a tuktuk you can reach a near-by village, but did not sound appealing when we were there so we just decided to take advantage of the services at the resort).

We stayed for 3 nights keeping it as a base point to visit...

We stayed for 3 nights keeping it as a base point to visit the nearby cities (Dambulla, Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa). The food is good, the staff are friendly and attentive to needs, the rooms are very spacious and the place is very quiet.

We would have liked two small armchairs also on the terrace... The best way to enjoy the beauty and peace of the place.

Deceptive! Avoid booking, worst hotel in our sri lanka stay

Nice settings with good potential. Some of the staff were friendly. Nice widlife. Many reachable places by car or tuktuk like Dambulla golden temple, Sigiriya rock, Anuradhapura, Polonaruwa...

We were very disapointed by many things. First we had to pay upon check-in, before even seeing the room. Some staff were not friendly and not profesional. The hotel itself is remote, you must take a driver or tuktuk to go around. Buildings look a bit decrepit and worn. The room was always full with about a dozen mosquitoes, and the hotel provided no mosquito nets. They did not have any baby crib either. The dinner meal quality was acceptable during weekends when they have the buffet, but really bad on other days. No bar or licence for alcohol either. The swimming pool was very dirty during our whole stay, with even FROGS in it, while we initially selected the hotel for the nice-looking swimming pool. As a consequence we negociated a small rebate upon departure. For this price, the value for money is not good for this part of Sri Lanka.

It was very comfortable and relaxing, and the staff were fantastic.

The water villas at Liyya were fantastic. They were really spacious with a big bathroom with really comfortable beds and luxurious linen, we slept really well! The staff were very accommodating and looked after us brilliantly, allowing us early check in after a long flight from London and a 3 hour drive from Colombo. The dining room overlooked the lake which was lovely.

The communal facilities were not as well looked after as the villas which was a shame. We were disappointed not to have somewhere to relax outside of our villa/the dining room in the evenings, the hotel could benefit from a bar/lounge area. I would suggest that the plastic above the shower is replaced with glass, as when it rains it’s extremely loud especially over night.
